Fake Festival @ Selby

Fake Festivals - Selby

We were down in Selby for the very first Fake Festival of the year, an awesome line-up consisting of tribute bands and original bands. Headlined by Kings Of Lyon with support from Psychobabylon, Rhodes, Solitude, Dirty Rogues, Vinnie And The Stars, Antarctic Monkeys and Coldplace.

First up to the stage were Psychobabylon playing all their own material to a fairly empty crowd but still appreciating the little crowd involvement they received they had a fairly good presence on the live stage and could probably benefit from playing more shows in the Selby area.

Next on to the stage were Rhodes, who were coming on to the stage after winning, or coming joint first in Battle Of The Bands (Of which our boys Halloe Away also made it to the top of) They covered a few songs including a spot on performance of Red Hot Chilli Peppers 'By The Way' Showing great energy on the stage these guys are definitely worth a check out.

Up next were Solitude, who we managed to catch a few words with so keep an eye out for that in the next few days. The guys covered a few songs in the spirit of the festival but it was their own songs that left a lasting impression on me, on the stage they demonstrated a great presence and got a great reception from the on looking crowd.

Fourth band to take the stage to a now packing out Selby audience was Dirty Rouges hitting the stage very hard and very loud with their own unique sound. They seemed to have the crowd on their side and should have maybe been more higher on the bill as they seemed to be the perfect opener for Antarctic Monkeys. All in all they are definitely worth a look into!

Next to the stage were Hull band Vinnie And The Stars, who, seemed very out of place in the line-up presenting the crowd with something very different. They chucked in a few covers including 'Hey Ya!' by The Outcast. They did suffer a few technical difficulties which slowed the set down a little, but I don't think many of the audience were too bothered about that.

Finally the first fake band took the stage to a massive crowd and a great applause, Antarctic Monkeys, tribute to, of course, Artic Monkeys. They were bombarded with crowd requests from the start of the set and blitzed through their set which involved all of the hits and new song 'Don't Sit Down 'Cause I Moved Your Chair' I haven't seen many tribute bands before and these guys really surprised me sounding spot on and performing flawlessly.

Next up were Coldplace, Coldplay tribute band. These guys for me stole the show away sounding spot on and even having a Chris Martin look a like fronting the band. They performed perfectly, minus a slight bass difficulty which was quickly resolved. Vocals were spot on and the crowd were definitely on their side singing back lyrics word for word and giving the band a really huge reception.

Kings Of Lyon were this years Selby head-liners bursting on to the stage to a now fully packed out marquee. Playing all the best hits from new and old albums to please all the die hard Kings Of Leon fans in attendance, when they jokingly announced they would not play Sex On Fire there was a mix of cheers and boo's from the crowd but it proved to be a great live performance with maximum audience interaction.

All the tribute bands put on a great show and in all it was a great day out for everyone that attended!

Best part of the event: Spending all day surrounded by great acts

Worst part of the event: Lack of crowd present to see the opening bands and show support.
