Riff Charity All Day Gig - Selby The Riverside

We were down in Selby on the 19th March to try raise awareness for the Help For Heroes charity. Seven bands were on the line-up including Italian headliners The Lotus.

Melody Of Your Demise's Jonny Gill opened the show with his acoustic alter ego Open Invitation, He played a lot of original songs and some covers including Hero by Enrique Iglesias in amongst the highlights. He showed a lot of talent on the stage and seemed to impress the crowd. Possibly Yorkshire's finest acoustic act but I will let you decide on that one.

Next up were rock band Patriot Rebel, who were filling in last minute for a band that dropped out. They played awesomely well showcasing a very unique sound compared to many bands that I have heard in the past. They also did some covers such as Velvet Revolver's Slither, which was performed brilliantly.

After those two bands we had a brief break whilst other bands showed up.

Next up on the stage after an hour break were acoustic act Halloe Away, who were one of the bands I was dying to see after hearing their EP a while back. They opened with their debut single My Lies and played it to perfection. They too had some covers in the set and even managed, somehow, to cover The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air theme tune!

Next to take the stage was Pop-punk band Pray For Hayden, who's EP we reviewed earlier. These guys are probably one of the best bands to come out of Yorkshire in a long time and they really demonstrated that on the night playing through their EP tracks and a cover of Alpahbeat's Fascination. They even resolved a technical glitch quickly too when most bands would stop playing they carried on with just one guitarist whilst the other replaced a broken string.

The night was progressing on now and there seemed to be a fairly good crowd in, the next band up were Goole based Electronic Rock band Sulu Babylon, we spoke to front man Phil earlier on and he even did an acoustic track for us check the video tabs for it!. They played awesome on the night showing off a very unique sound to any of the other bands that had played before them, when I went to see them play an acoustic set last year I began to wonder how they would sound live properly and I was not disappointed on the night they really out did themselves and showed that they have a lot of potential as a band to make it in music.

The second to last band up were Riff new boys Ava Divine, I missed the opening of the set to go conduct interviews with Pray For Hayden and Halloe Away but I came back to a room full of movement! The crowd were jumping around, pitting and even falling on to the stage area! The boys really got the show moving and showed that they had a really stable fan base in the area.

Last up were Italian head liners The Lotus, but sadly at this time people had vanished from the venue leaving only a hand full of listeners, but my god the people who left missed out. I have never seen a band use so many instruments on a stage before! 2 full sized piano's/synthesizer's, bass guitar, lead guitar, drums and even a keytar! It was crazy. They showed us a slice of the Italian music scene and left us wanting more. Their set was full of original songs and even a drum solo and bass solo, as requested by the crowd!

Best part of the night: Seeing so many amazing bands sharing a stage together

Worst part of the night: The crowd leaving when The Lotus came on.

Be sure to check out all the bands mentioned above as they all equally played amazing and are definitely worth checking out!.
