Hey! I'm A MovieStar:Unplugged
Recently I was sent the brand new acoustic EP by Bracknell’s own Hey! I’m A MovieStar, a band that have constantly shown me improvement with each single they release and the acoustic EP is no different, a beautifully written piece of work accompanied by some of the most meaningful and thoughtful lyrics placed on top of amazing instrumental’s really open’s your eyes to the world around you.
Opening with my favourite track on the EP titled ‘Dear World’ which is a beautifully written piece of music with lyrics that more recently I can relate to greatly, Matt Merry’s vocal work on top of the EP suite perfectly accompanied with soothing yet powerful chords in the background, it is definitely one of, if not thee, best track I have heard this summer, and has been on repeat the past few days.
A Story Left Untold is the second track, and again is full of meaningful and un-generic lyrics, you can see that the band have tried to make something real that a lot of people can relate to and it has really worked, well, it has for me anyway! Again vocal and instrumental contrast beautifully and hopefully this won’t be the last time we hear some acoustics from the guys.
Nothing To Lose is the third track, opening a bit faster paced than the previous two tracks, Matt’s vocals seem to be in their element in acoustic music, he doesn’t sound like he has taken anything too strenuous and it all flows perfectly together, a great demonstration of vocal talent.
Wrong Or Right is the next track which features guest vocals from Mollie of Countdown to Hollywood, vocals merge brilliantly non over power each other and a lot of credit needs to be given to Scott, Matt and Russ throughout the entire EP too, beautifully crafting great music to suit the songs perfectly.
Say To You is the final track, which bursts into life with a great opening instrumental with piano and guitar which makes it sound different to the rest of the EP but at the same time keep the same feel to it and have the same constant meaningful lyrics and beautifully crafted vocals and instrumental throughout.
A lot of credit needs to be given to these guys, they have worked hard on these songs and it really has paid off, a great team effort and I am sure it will prove to be a big hit with the fans.
I have heard a lot of acoustic music in the time of working with Riff, but this is by far the one that has sunk in and meant the most to me, the lyrics can be adapted to anybody and it makes for real relaxing listening, I urge everyone to go out and check these guys out and get hold of the EP, it is well worth a listen.
Riff Final Rating: R R R R R *Dear World – Acoustic track of the year nomination – Riff Awards 2012*
