Forever and A Day - Last Orders

Forever And A Day - Last Orders - Mini Album

We have been sent Forever And A Day's new mini album titled Last Orders to check out, here is what I make of it.

After first hearing these guys grace the stage at Selby for my birthday event I knew they were something special and worth checking out.

The mini album is 6 tracks long, kicking off with a rather rowdy sounding introduction titled Last Orders before kicking into the first proper track titled The Roads Ahead. Erupting into a great sounding, fast paced pop-punk sounding track accompanied by the perfect scream vocals to give it that edge on the modern day music scene. The opening track really leads you into the rest of the album and makes for real easy listening.

Heebeegeebees is the next track title, yeah, really! Opening with a solid progressive hardcore feel it really sways from what The Roads Ahead was sounding like and pushes to a more metal side demonstrating their stability as a band that can alternate their sound. Again sounding really tight on vocals and instrumental, this mini album is mounting to be one of the best pieces of work I have heard this year, I kid you not.

Can't Spell Slut Without You is the next track, starting really bass heavy and emerging into proper head banging piece of material, sounding fairly similar to the new Funeral For A Friend work. With a monstrous ending packing tonnes of energy into a few seconds of sheer brilliance and individuality, a real eye opener of a track demonstrating just how perfect Forever And A Day can be.

We See Everything, So Play Nice is the 5th track on the album, and just before I begin to name the one thing I thought was missing from the album, it crops up here, gang chants! The ultimate necessity for a live atmosphere, showing that the band aren't just thinking about their recorded sound, but also their live presence as well, or maybe they just like gang chants? Going back to a more pop-punk sounding band on this track, but still maintaining their perfect sound.

The final track on the album is titled You're A Complicated Cat, Edward. A great sounding opening to the track, giving the band a real good vibe packed of beats guaranteed to get your feet moving, I don't think I could possibly name a favourite track due to how different all tracks sound, but this is sure close to topping the list here, Forever And A Day proving they don't do imperfections and can constantly throw something unexpected your way, with a real fresh sounding piece of work in the closing minutes of the track which manages to merge so well with the rest of the track whilst pulsating through your ears before exploding into a very unexpected rough vocal verse to nicely top off what is such a beautifully crafted and produced piece of work.

I can honestly say I have no bad words against this album, at all. Utter perfection and a clear demonstration of just how talented these guys are. Massive well done, can't wait to hear more from you.

Riff Final Rating: R R R R R *Contender for Album of the Year*
