Riff Midweek Mayhem @ Riverside, Selby

Riff Midweek Mayhem - The Riverside, Selby 13/7/11

A change of scenery for the Midweek Mayhem shows this week, hosted at The Riverside in Selby instead of our new weekly home Doncaster Vintage Rockbar. The headline act were Riff favourites One Night Stand With Fate, plus support from Riff new boys InHeptic, Cyb3rnator, Colour Me Stunned, ReVerbed and Riff Tour 2011 main band In Search Of Sunrise.

First to the stage were new boys InHeptic, proving to everyone that there was justice in them being taken under our wing. Demonstrating maturity throughout their set and increasing in confidence every time they step out to face a crowd, a headline show will be offered to them soon in Doncaster, along with some more big news coming their way, so keep your eyes on these guys!

Next up was Pokemon master Tyla, also known as Cyb3rnator, a great act to wow any audience playing 8-bit tunes from his Gameboy and Nintendo DS always seems to pull in a good audience. The crowd seemed to favour his set the most in the entire evening and who can blame them, it isn't often you get something as unique as this show up on a stage!

Colour Me Stunned were third up to face the crowd, after playing Doncaster the week before I was excited to hear these guys again. They do not disappoint either! Demonstrating yet again their dominance in the UK pop-punk scene and showing how easy it is to win a crowd after getting the majority of the crowd to sing along to their cover of 'Feeling This' by pop-punk legends Blink 182. We recently reviewed their EP too and I can see big things over the horizon for the guys!

ReVerbed were next up, again previously playing Doncaster on a headline slot I knew what to expect from the guys, showing just why so many people have faith in the band to succeed with their gripping innovating sound and live presence, a few more gigs around the country and I am sure the guys will hit the tops, their album is out too , so go give that a check out, well worth your time.

In Search Of Sunrise took to the stage next, for what was only their second gig as a band! They demonstrated great presence and won a lot of the crowd over on the night. Presenting themselves as one of the best up-coming post-hardcore bands in the area at the minute, pushing themselves for the start of the Riff Tour, if you haven't seen these guys live yet, be sure to make an appearance on a date, they have some big things coming!

Finally up to the stage were Riff favourites One Night Stand With Fate, who had mentioned prior to the event that their set would only consist of three songs due to a band member not being present. They played well under the circumstances and stand in guitarist Martyn of Tempa Falls , who you may recognise as the guest vocals over the new track Free Fallin' had managed to learn some of the songs in such a short amount of time to make sure Selby got a somewhat decent show, there were some cock-up's but the crowd seemed to be happy with the show.

All in all the night was a great warm-up for some bands before they embark on the Riff Tour, which starts in Selby on the 1st August and ends there on the 18th September! So be sure to come down and hang out with us all!

- Adam.
