Sparks Charity Event @ Riverside, Selby

We were down in Selby on the 22nd April to help Beth Hartshorne raise money for Sparks. The event was headlined by One Night Stand With Fate and support came from Beth Hartshorne, Wisharts Way, Jack Robinson, The Littlemoores, Cyb3rnator, Halloe Away, Lost At Sea and Sulu Babylon.

First to the stage was Beth, who had spent her time to put this event together with a little bit of help from myself, If you have heard the older Halloe Away tracks you will hear Beth lending her vocals on some tracks. She opened her set with a cover of the much hated viral sensation 'Friday' by Rebecca Black. After that she played a lot of originals before covering 30 Seconds To Mars and finishing with a song that she wrote after hearing about Sparks. She played an amazing set and with the sun beaming down she really set the mood for a great day.

Next up were Wisharts Way, I did not catch much of their set as I was outside conducting interviews with One Night Stand With Fate, but from what I did manage to catch I can say that they are a very talented group and they got a good crowd reaction.

Next on to the stage was a good friend of mine Jack Robinson, Carrying on the acoustic mood of the evening by playing all original songs to a very welcoming crowd that seemed to enjoy his contribution to the line-up. He demonstrated a great amount of talent throughout his set and is most definitely worth catching live if you manage to get a moment spare.

The Littlemoores were next on to the stage, and looked really interesting setting up with a trumpet, saxophone and accordion as well as guitar and drums! I only managed to catch two songs from the guys though as I was heading out again to get food. They sparked a lot of energy into the event after a run of acoustic acts and showed Selby something different to what they usually see. They have a great Ska sound and are probably one of the most exciting bands I have seen this year.

When I cam back from my food stop Cyb3rnator was already ripping through his set, I didn't really know what to expect from the crowd for Cyb3rnator I figured they would be stood around paying little attention but it turns out that Tyla (Cyb3rnator) had turned a few heads and got a lot of people interested in what he had going on, playing tracks via his Nintendo DS and laptop caused a small gathering around the stage and even got a few people asking for more!

Halloe Away were the next band up on the stage, after seeing them perform earlier on at my own charity event I was really looking forward to seeing them again, and so were some other members in the audience. They opened with their old track My Lies which featured Beth. Afterwards they raced through their winning a lot of new fans along the way, some people were even coming in from the beer garden to watch them! During their cover of Cee Lo Green's 'Fuck You' they got the best crowd reaction of the night with almost everyone joining in. We managed to finally get a good quality interview with the band too so keep an eye out for that!

Next up were Lost At Sea, A band that were last minute stand in's on the event and I was really looking forward to see what they could deliver. They played a lot of original songs and some A Day To Remember cover's and seemed to have gotten a great crowd reaction, there was finally some movement going on and the crowd seemed really warmed up for the closing stages of the event. Lost At Sea are definitely worth a look at and hopefully we will be working with them a lot more from now on.

Next on were great friends of mine Sulu Babylon, who will have their new album out very soon, expect a review later on! They played all their own material and even with drummer Frag suffering with a stiff neck on the night they played through perfectly. They played some different songs to the last time they played Selby and showed a great amount of talent and are one of the best bands emerging from the Yorkshire scene.

Finally up on to the stage after hours of waiting and watching the other bands play One Night Stand With Fate took to the stage. They got a great little reaction from the crowd and the regulars were there to show support to our boys. Their set was interrupted by guitarist Nigel playing a harmonica interlude...for no particular reason so front man Curtis decided to beat box over it. After that they sped on with the set and signed off their last show until their new material is recorded in great fashion.

The event was in aid of charity and we can confirm that over £150 was made for Sparks so a big thank you to all that donated and a huge thank you to Ian Wright, John Swift, Stephen Wright and all the other staff members that worked to make the gig a success.
